The Bendix E‑6 foot valve is a floor‑mounted, treadle‑operated dual‑circuit service brake valve. The primary (No. 1) circuit is mechanically actuated through the treadle, plunger, and primary piston. The secondary (No. 2) circuit functions similarly to a relay valve, receiving control air from the primary circuit during normal operation. In the event of primary circuit failure, the secondary inlet valve is mechanically opened through push‑through force applied by the driver via the treadle and plunger assembly.
