Truck & Trailer Light Wiring, Pigtails & Mounting Hardware

Wiring connectors, grommets, mounting brackets, and hardware for installing and replacing truck and trailer lights. This category carries the components needed to complete a lighting installation — from the pigtail connector that delivers power to the lamp, to the grommet that seals it in the mounting hole, to the bracket or box that holds everything in place.

Pigtail connectors are available in standard 2-pin and 3-pin configurations for common truck and trailer light applications. Rubber grommets are stocked in the most common sizes — 2", 2-1/2", and 4" round, 6" oval, and a rectangular grommet compatible with Truck-Lite Model 14 and similar lights from other brands. Mounting options include angle brackets for grommet-mount lights, surface-mount bases for 2" and 2-1/2" round lights, snap-in bases with integrated power and ground pins compatible with Truck-Lite Model 15 and Model 19 style lights and similar designs from other brands, and plastic bases for 3/4" round LED marker lights. Empty steel light boxes with one or more holes for 4" round or 6" oval lights are also available, including versions with a side grommet hole for marker lights.

Additional products include chrome plastic bezels for grommet-mount lights, self-adhesive black powder-coated steel magnetic plates for mounting magnetic-base warning lights on aluminum and other non-ferrous surfaces, and electrical corrosion preventative compound. Brands include Automann, Betts, Buyers Products, Grote, Pro LED, Pro Trucking Products, Truck-Lite, and United Pacific.

Frequently Asked Mounting and Wiring Questions:

What is a light pigtail connector?

A pigtail connector is a short wiring harness with a molded plug on one end that connects to the matching socket on a truck or trailer light. Pigtails deliver power and ground to the lamp and allow lights to be disconnected and replaced without cutting wires. Standard configurations for truck and trailer lights include 2-pin and 3-pin connectors.

What size grommet do I need for my truck or trailer light?

Grommet size depends on the light housing diameter. Common sizes are 2" round for small marker and clearance lights, 2-1/2" round for mid-size round lights, 4" round for standard stop/tail/turn and larger marker lights, and 6" oval for oval-housing lights. A rectangular grommet is also available for Truck-Lite Model 14 style lights and compatible housings from other brands. Check your existing grommet or the light manufacturer's spec to confirm the correct size.

What are snap-in light bases used for?

Snap-in light bases are mounting assemblies with integrated power and ground pins that both secure the light and deliver electrical connection without separate wiring at the lamp. The light snaps into the base and receives power directly through the pins. This system allows the lamp to be replaced independently of the base, simplifying maintenance. These bases are compatible with Truck-Lite Model 15 and Model 19 style lights and similar designs from other brands.

What are magnetic mounting plates used for?

Magnetic mounting plates are self-adhesive black powder-coated steel plates designed for surfaces that will not hold a magnet on their own — primarily aluminum truck bodies and trailers. Adhering a plate to the surface creates a magnetic mounting point for warning lights and other magnetic-base accessories without drilling or permanent modification.

What is electrical corrosion preventative compound used for?

Corrosion preventative compound is applied to electrical connections, terminals, and connector pins to seal out moisture and prevent oxidation that can cause high resistance, intermittent connections, and lamp failure. It is particularly useful in trailer wiring connections and light pigtails that are exposed to road spray, salt, and weather.

What are light bezels used for?

Bezels are decorative trim rings that mount around the outside of a grommet-mount light. Most are chrome plastic and serve primarily a cosmetic purpose, giving the light installation a finished appearance. Some bezels also cover the mounting hole edges or grommet, providing a cleaner look on the finished vehicle.
